City of Plattsburgh to Host Inaugural Can/Am Beach Soccer Tournament

The Can/Am Beach Soccer Championship is to be held this summer at the Plattsburgh City Beach on July 15 and 16.

PLATTSBURGH, NY – The City of Plattsburgh is excited to announce the nation’s first ever Can/Am Beach Soccer Championship Tournament. The tournament will take place this summer from July 15-16, 2017 and will be located at the Plattsburgh City Beach on 4 Beach Road in Plattsburgh. Teams of all abilities and regions are invited to participate in this international tournament.

The Can/Am Beach Soccer Championship will be contested in the following divisions: U-8 Coed, U-10 Coed, U-12 Girls, U-12 Boys, U-14 Girls, U-14 Boys, U-16 Girls, U-16 Boys, U-18 Girls, U-18 Boys, Women 18+ and Men 18+. Each team will consist of up to 8 players with 6 players playing at a time. Teams will play a minimum of three games in this round robin tournament. Divisions are limited to just 8 teams in each and registration is expected to close out quickly. Registration can be done online at and is $30 per player. Upon arrival, all players will receive a complimentary event t-shirt and free entry to the Plattsburgh City Beach.

“The Plattsburgh City Beach is a perfect venue for this event,” said Steve Peters, Superintendent of Recreation for the City of Plattsburgh. “The Adirondack Coast region has a long tradition of quality soccer programs so it’s appropriate that we welcome international teams for this unique event.  The Plattsburgh City Beach is one of the longest freshwater beaches in America, so we’ll have plenty of room to accommodate this international field.  In addition to the non-stop action all day long, families can enjoy swimming in the lake, kayak rentals, and our beachfront shops and eateries, including the Taco Shack and the Cabana Beach Bar.” 

The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department implements a variety of fitness and recreation programs and maintains seventeen parks throughout the city as well as the Municipal Beach, the Crete Memorial Civic Center, and the City Recreation Center.
