WELCOME FROM THE MAYOR
Welcome and thank you for visiting the City of Plattsburgh’s website. I look forward to you exploring all that our city has to offer. Located on the Adirondack Coast, home to a little more that 19,000 residents, Plattsburgh boast an exciting array of businesses, events, and outdoor activities, making it an ideal place to live, or spend your next vacation!
Plattsburgh sits on the shores of Lake Champlain, which allows for a number of recreational activities, including boating, fishing, and kayaking. The city also has one of the largest freshwater beaches in the United States, if you want to spend a day soaking up the sun. If your out on the water , feel free to visit us by boat at our city marina. Located throughout the city are several parks, and recreational trails. If you like to hike, just to our west, are the majestic Adirondack Mountains, where you can climb one of the 46 High Peaks.
We also offer a number of establishments that have live music, including the Strand Theatre that host plays, musical acts, and films, even world class Blues. If you are a history buff, Plattsburgh is a place for you! We celebrate the Commemoration of the Battle of Plattsburgh every fall, featuring a number of renactments. During this time, take the opportunity to visit the numerous monuments, and museums in the area. Not short on events, join us for Mayor’s Cup and Regetta, or one of the several fishing tournaments held during the year, including the largest bass fishing tournament.
In Plattsburgh’s downtown corridor are a mixture of coffee shops, pubs, bars, and fine dining experiences. You have to try our famous “Michigan” at one of our establishments, or try one at several establishments and see which style you like best. Our downtown is designed to be walkable, with abundant history, slow shopping, and friendly people. Come grab a bite and take in a show. After you eat, come get your next read at one of our local bookstores, a gift at one of our shops, or sip on a beverage at one of the local breweries.
The City a place of opportunity, always looking to work with interested parties in opening businesses in the city. We offer some of lowest electrical rates in the United States and have a history of working well with our neighbors from Quebec. We have excellent educational institutions, including two local colleges that provide an outstanding potential workforce. We are currently investing tens of millions of dollars into our community to create business-ready sites that can access power as inexpensively as 2.7 cents per kilowatt hour, and 4.5 cents for our residents, half the lowest rate average rate found in any state. And, we are investing in quality of life for your workforce and job opportunities for our residents.
I believe this is a great place to go to college, to work, live, and play, and then when you retire, to really enjoy our city, our downtown, our lake, and our quality of life. I welcome you to Plattsburgh, and I look forward to seeing you around the City!"
